We want capable, responsible AI to reach students and communities whose opportunities are constrained by income, geography, hardware, or reliable internet access.

Access may change how the service is delivered. It should never diminish the care, quality, or dignity of the experience.

Our north star

Access is part of responsible AI—not an afterthought.

“Out of many” describes more than the independent models in an EX MULTIS review. It points toward a future in which more people can participate in the knowledge those systems help unlock.

A learner should not receive a lesser standard of care because a family cannot afford another subscription or a community cannot depend on an always-on connection. Access may be capped and compute may be smaller, but limits, uncertainty, evidence, and human responsibility should remain visible.

Pocket LLM · Explained

A useful AI resource that can stay close to the learner.

“Pocket” describes portability and local availability. It does not mean every future model must literally run on a phone.

WHAT IT IS

A compact, locally runnable language model packaged for learning.

The goal is a downloadable system that can run on suitable personal hardware or a shared school, library, or community server. Once installed, core assistance could remain available without sending every question to a distant cloud service or requiring a continuous high-speed connection.

Why open technology matters

Use open foundations to make local access economically possible.

Recurring cloud inference can make broad, sustained access difficult to fund. EX MULTIS intends to evaluate open-source software and openly licensed or open-weight models where their licenses, capabilities, and safety characteristics fit the program.

Local operation can reduce recurring provider charges, make limited connectivity more workable, extend the useful life of existing hardware, and allow partners to inspect and improve more of the system.

A free or sponsored cloud allowance for eligible students, with clear monthly limits, appropriate model routes, and no automatic overages.

Programs shaped with rural school districts, community colleges, libraries, and local organizations instead of imposed from a distance.

A longer-term downloadable or locally hosted option for places where dependable broadband and recurring cloud costs are the central barriers.

The access compact

Paid access can help widen access.

We are exploring a durable structure in which a defined portion of paid EX MULTIS revenue, together with partner support, funds capped learner access and future Pocket LLM work.

A variable-cost AI service cannot responsibly promise a one-for-one donation before the economics are proven. We intend to publish the mechanism, eligibility approach, and measurable results when the program is ready.
